Table Mountain is
just over a kilometer high (1067 meters at the
West end at the Cable Station and 1086 meters at
the East end at Maclears beacon) and is 3
kilometers long. With Devil’s Peak, Lions Head,
Signal Hill and Table Bay, Cape Town lies within
a magnificent amphitheatre.
From the observation platform at
the highest point Hout Bay it is possible to see
500 million years of Cape history Between the
sea and the road is the Peninsula’s granite

Alfred Waterfront provides entertainment for the

brewery, more than 50 restaurants and seven

The oldest
building in South Africa – built by the VOC (Verenigde
Oost-Indische Compagnie) (United East-India
Company) between 1666 and 1679. It replaced a
small, square, clay and timber fort built by Jan
van Riebeeck in 1652. The present 5 sided Castle
was built with stone and slate from Signal Hill
and Robben Island and was situated on the beach.
The entrance to the Castle faced the sea and
when the sea was high it washed into the Castle.
